The National Center for Disaster Preparedness at Columbia University will be hosting a half-day pilot workshop on Transitioning Disaster Survivors from Temporary to Permanent Housing.
Transitioning communities from temporary to stable housing after a large-scale disaster is a formidable challenge. The local housing sector, while being the bedrock of any given community’s social and economic well-being, is often unprepared for the complex process of meaningful long term recovery that incorporates best practices from existing federal, state, and local housing assistance programs. For this pilot workshop, sponsored by FEMA, learners will identify elements of a disaster recovery plan, including resources and services for disaster survivors. Learners will also identify how state and local government can improve the effectiveness of rapid rehabilitation of damaged housing prior to a disaster through code enforcement, permits and utility planning.
This pilot workshop will be held at Teachers College, Columbia University in Horace Mann Room 152 from 1:00 to 5:00 PM.Seating is limited and requires an RSVP via this page to attend. For more information on NCDP, visit us at https://ncdp.columbia.edu/
