In New York City alone, some 1.2 billion gallons of wastewater are produced every single day. This wastewater all needs to be treated daily, an important example of the many local and global challenges taken up by earth and environmental engineers. Associate Professor Kartik Chandran, whose research is in sustainable ways to address water, sanitation, and human health, presents a clear and inspiring overview on the potential for engineers to effect change and work toward a sustainable Earth and environment. Students who major in earth and environmental engineering at Columbia Engineering learn firsthand how to tackle an ever-increasing array of environmental problems worldwide while contributing to Columbia's efforts to promote environmental sustainability on its campus.
